Oh Christmas Tree Skirt… oh Christmas Tree Skirt…

I finished it! My new Christmas tree skirt! I’ve had a cheap flannel skirt since I’ve had my own tree.. this is a major improvement!

Douglas’ 8th Birthday & Baptism

My little Douglas turned 8 (!) on December 4th.

Heather (Heathers Cake Cottage) once again provided a WONDERFUL birthday cake for him!

And here’s a picture of various family members at the baptism. Douglas, Dudley, and Drew in the front row, Grandma, Daniel, Jonah, and Mason in the back row, and Kyle, Grandpa and Sean (sitting) in the far back.

Shellie, Hannah and Madison. Hannah and Maddy played a violin/viola number for us at the baptism.

Rainie played 1/2 of a duet for the closing number with Marva Packer, and Jonah played the second half of the duet.

It was a great night! All our family members (excluding those in El Paso) came and most participated in the program! Thank you everyone!

Thanksgiving Weekend

This post is a little late, but at least I’m getting it posted! Life has been increasingly crazy and the poor blog is being neglected…

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! These first two shots are of the Thanksgiving sunrise at our house. It was nice and warm, and just a pretty morning!

Now onto my new favorite thing.. My new bed! It’s made out of poplar with a cherry veneer.  A slightly different color than my armoires, but notice how the molding on the headboard matches the molding on the armoires? Dude is thinking about staining the armoires to match….we’ll see.. (and yes, I’m looking for a new rug/runner for my side (left in the photo) of the bed)

We were worried about it fitting in our bedroom. I ordered it online because none of the stores had one set up to look at. So it was a guess about how it would look/fit/etc. The delivery men had to finesse the headboard up the stairs (it BARELY made it), and the light switch plate is covered by an inch to allow Dude’s armoire door to open without banging into the bed, but all in all it works in the room!

It has these nifty lights in the headboard, the little brass button thing on the right (with the string hanging from it) controls the 3 way light by touch. Pretty groovy!

It was delivered the day before Thanksgiving. I LOVE it, but both the Dude and I have had to adjust to the new height. We were both uncertain about the sleeping up by the ceiling thing, but I think we’re over that now!  Besides, if we were to lower the mattress (by taking out the platform/box spring) we wouldn’t be able to reach the groovy lights!

The ‘rails’ are actually 2 storage boxes with drawers! I LOVE them! Probably my favorite feature! There is room for a third drawer by the head of the bed, but generally people have nightstands there. In our case we could have used the extra storage, but I’m not going to complain.. I GOT A NEW BED!

Drew thinks it’s great, but has to perform a complicated maneuver to get up on the bed now. He lifts the bed-skirt to find a toe-hold, then uses the footboard to get the rest of the way up. Dudley and I just tend to lean/fall backwards onto it, swinging our legs up with the momentum of the fall. He he he…

Since the dude and I have been together we’ve slept on my old full mattress, the houseboat berth (we crawled into a 3 foot hole to sleep every night), and Kyle’s used headboard with a $20 metal frame. It’s soooo cool to have an nice bed finally!

Fall… sigh…

Fall is my FAVORITE season. The weather is wonderful, not too hot, not too cold, the plants in the yard are all full and filled in, and you are surrounded by pretty colors everywhere!

Except for this year. This year in Northern Utah, we went from 70 degrees to 40 degrees (daytime high) overnight. Literally. We had freezing overnight temperatures the day after Halloween. 

As a result, all of our nice lush green leaves in the yard froze and turned brown. No pretty colors.

There were a few trees here and there in the valley that had turned earlier that were pretty, but I still have pathetic dead greenish - brownish leaves hanging off my apple tree and flowering plum tree. They haven’t even managed to fall yet!

So today when I came across these gorgeous pictures here, I couldn’t help but wish I had been there to see these scenes myself, this is what Fall is all about! 

At least I could post them for others to see as well!

So enjoy…imagine you’re breathing in the crisp sweet autumn air as you stroll through these beautiful fall scenes…

“Give a little whistle” to the pretty sparrows still keeping us company…

Enjoy these last few pleasant afternoons and evenings before old man winter comes knocking..

Don’t forget to pay attention to the little details.. maybe harvest a few leaves for framing or art projects at home…

and enjoy the crunch of leaves under your feet as you walk through the incredible vista’s that are there for your enjoyment.

Drew's Happy Birthday!

Another late post... Drew turned 3 on November 1st! This is the awesome, spectacular, wonderful birthday cake my neighbor Heather made for him! (yes she takes orders...)

And the COOL polka dot inside of the cake! Drew licked frosting off of it for over a week.. I ate way too much of it, giving myself a sick sugar stomach more that once. (you'd think I'd learn..) The kids loved eating the pumpkins, ghosts, and various windows, etc.

Late Halloween Post

Thought I'd better get these published..

I've been holding off because I didn't get a photo of Drew in his dragon costume, I meant to do it right after Halloween, but then I put all the Halloween stuff away in the crawl space under the house. Am I a bad mom or what? Luckily I found this photo on Dude's camera...the suit is a leetle tight on Drew, but he was determined to be a dragon!
(Notice the bare feet? That's how warm it was on Halloween!)

The guys on Halloween day..

Douglas' "back yard" costume. He was the back yard, dirt pants and sleeves, grass shirt, face, and hair.. complete with bugs crawling all over him...pants, shirt, and hair..

He thought the face paint would be cool.. ended up scrubbing it off at school about an hour into it. Imagine that?
