Sewing room beadboard shelf

Last summer a neighbor had a bunch of stuff on her curb that she was leaving out for all us local scroungers to take away for her. Well I've never been one to pass up freebies!

I grabbed this then hutch because of the style and quality of the piece (this thing is freaking HEAVY!). It was a dark 70's brown, with no bottom shelf. For awhile it sat on top of my then dresser/now sideboard in my bedroom and held books. But once I got my cool new armoire's for the bedroom, this got moved to my basement hallway (at the bottom of the stairs, totally in the way for months), and finally was moved out under the carport.

Finally, I realized I needed even MORE storage in my now crammed full sewing room (stuff literally starting to stack up on the floor.. amazing how fast that happens!)

I've tried to give it away to numerous neighbors, many who considered it, but passed it over as "too much work".

So inspiration struck, measurements were taken, and this is the end result! I put it in the corner once occupied by the red dresser, which is now housed next to the hutch.

Yes, those two pieces are a little tight, but the functionality is there, and that's what matters most right?

I also had help from my Monkey. He's such a good resource when mommy is trying to do something!

Anywho.. it's barely 10am and lookee what I've managed to do already! Let's see what other projects I can tackle today!

New Sewing Room Addition

I finally got some RED into my Sewing room. I've had this old wood dresser for about 8 years now, it used to be my grandma's and was given to me when she moved to Washington. It used to be brown, and for years was Douglas' clothing dresser. It's been out under my carport in pieces for about a month now, and I was going to paint it then sell it... But after it was done...I decided it was cute enough to make room for!

Sewing/Craft/Hobby Room/Studio!

I got my stuff moved into my room and mostly organized!

Here is a tour, clockwise, starting on the wall to the left of the door.

My awesome new/used hutch! Notice in the corner my door knob cabinet, yarn crate, and antique sewing machine... we'll come back to them...

Turning to the right, you see my Ikea Expedit shelving and desk, all my cool baskets full of sewing fabric and goodies, and my other sewing/crafty related stuff...patterns, fabric paint, felt, presser feet, etc...

To the right of the shelving is my new/used apothecary cabinet, now filled with sewing accessories such as, buttons, measuring tapes, ribbon, zippers, elastic, and on and on and on....

I hung my completed 'sisters' quilt above it, but it's feeling a little crowded, so I'll probably use it elsewhere. Gives me a little space to plan something for!

Keep turning right and you see my cool new hall tree with bench (or THRONE as it has been dubbed by my hubby and numerous sisters!)

I plan on getting some kind of hanging system for above the closet doors, to hang quilts-in-progress from.

Now, back to that corner... I'm not sure about the placement of this stuff...will play around with it and see if something better pops out. FYI-the blanket is for my kitties to sleep on...

And one last shot of my cute baskets on top of the shelving....

Notice: no red accents yet... I'm planning a seat cushion for the throne, and covering the 'box' above the window in a neat coordinating fabric.

Will post when complete!

And Pulls?

And the WAY groovy mod-podged inner doors!

See how the undercoat comes through in the distressing?

And my cute stuff, fabric, buttons, jars, tins, etc. I get to show off now?

Totally groovy if you ask me!

Hutch Refinish in Progress...

Remember the Hutch I'm refinishing?
Well here are some sneek peeks, and color adjustments:

This picture shows the FIRST green I tried. (I'm going for ultra cheap on this, I got the hutch for $30, and am using 'oops!' paint I tend to buy every time I see some, from Home Depot. $5 a gallon! Can't beat it!)
This picture doesn't really show the colors well (of course, got to figure out how to use my camera better!), but this green was too bold and bright for what I'm trying to achieve.

So, I grabbed yet another gallon of Oops! paint, and started on the second coat (on the right side). I figure the first coat will look good as an under-coat when I get to the distressing part of the project.

Again, this is an awful portrayal of the actual color. It's really a nice sagey green, not this yellow/gray looking thing.... the first pic is taken w/out a flash...

This pic is taken WITH a flash, but is not much better...

This is probably the best I'm going to get for now, the wall behind is a light creamy yellow, again...not shown so well here.

Gonna have to figure out how to get some actual good color shots!

Anywho, project "Studio/Sewing/Craft Room' is well underway! More to come!
