Updates…

Sewing room, dog run, etc 004

Ok.. I have a lot of photo’s today, because I’ve been working my butt off on a few projects lately and haven’t managed to take the time to photograph and post them… So here’s the catch up post!

When I got my new old dresser for the front room (below), I had to find a place to put the old sideboard that used to be there. The only place in the house to even consider squeezing it into was my sewing room. (And believe me, that was BARELY a consideration). My hubby wouldn’t let me sell it, so that option was out, so was sticking it in the garage to get destroyed.

So.. after much re-arranging in my head, this is the solution I came up with. Notice my red shelf on top of the sideboard? Yup…more vertical space. Yes the room is incredibly tight and crowded, but I have more space to store more fabric and crafty stuff!

This corner was going to be ‘wasted’ space, I solved that by storing all my fabric-on-bolts in it. Works! Now I can see what I have without having to dig through to the back of my closet for it!

New desk placement. Basically in the other corner of the room, straight across from where it used to be.

And the Ikea wall.. again straight across the room from where it used to be.

Now for these projects. Notice my cool Halloween table runner I made? It now hangs over the edges like I wanted it to! And the ‘something Wicked this way comes’ sign on the wall? Awesome eh? Thank you for that Shellie! (I think it was referring to my hubby at the time it was given to me…ha ha ha)

And the new, antique looking, handles I put on the dresser. Much better than the old brass and ceramic handles that were on it. Half of them had the porcelain broken… can we say “trash can”?

And finally the big project that put Dudley in bed with back problems for the weekend…The dog run! (Thank you Seth and Brooke!)

As Dude put it..”who knew putting in a used (can we say free?) dog run would be as much work as installing a new one? We had to do all sorts of funky things to get it useable, but so far it has been great! (Other than Baxter almost knocking himself out on it as we were putting pegs in the bottom of this side.. he didn’t see it and ran full speed ahead right into it. Scared the crap out of all of us! Then of course we laughed hysterically.)

I painted the dog house the same color as our house, and am going to get a new floor installed on it today or tomorrow. The kids are using it more than the dogs right now..(the house and the run!), but we figured we killed to birds with one stone!

The other side of the run with the gate. The pumpkins, carrots and peppers are all in the run now..next year they’ll probably eat the dog house..

And lastly, an update on a couple of my veggies… these are the pole beans climbing up the used gazebo parts I salvaged… they’re FINALLY producing well, I’ve got a big silver bowl of them I picked yesterday.. gotta figure out what I’m going to do with them!

And my tomato jungle! (the big box in the back) Another veggie I’ve got to figure out what to do with. I’ve dried a bunch so far, but am thinking about juicing the rest…

In front of the tomato box is Oregano, Rhubarb, Chives, Garlic, Parsley (two kinds!), thyme (3 kinds!), and Terragon. Oh, and the stray Lemon Balm plant.. they just grow wherever they want to.

So now everything is updated! Hope you enjoyed… as I’m sure you all did… ;~)

  1. OK, first, I never would have believed you could fit that much furniture in that small room. Amazing! Second, so jealous of your garden. I tried to grow all that stuff this year. But, with our wonderful Texas heat and drought. ALL of it died.. Nothing grew randomly. I even lost some of my hardier plants. Super super jealous.
